Can't View the 1940 Census?

Having trouble viewing the long-awaited 1940 Census that was released today?
Turns out you are not alone.

The 1940 Census was the most searched term on Monday, with over 22 million hits in just three hours, according to Google.com. Not surprising, taking into account this information has been considered 'private' since it's collection in 1940.

Even when Census Director Robert Groves attempted to look up his grandfather at the official unveiling, the loading screens never gave way. This has mostly been the case today, for professional genealogists, historians and amateur family history detectives alike.

According to the Official 1940 Census website, they are making some updates to the site to better accomodate users. While these changes are taking place, users should still be able to search for enumeration districts and bookmark results to view in the (hopefully near!) future.
